EPISODE SUMMARY:
In the bonus episode, we talk about Deb’s new book, “Cardan on Edward VI: A Renaissance Horoscope for a Boy King,” and look at the charts of the Tudor monarchs as well as the astrologers who argued over them.
We also zoom in on William Lilly’s 1644 treatise, “England’s Propheticall Merlin,” and his account of the regnal eras of the 16th and 17th centuries, each punctuated by a Jupiter–Saturn conjunction. Along the way, we compare the very different methods and ‘takes’ on Edward’s chart from three astrologers: Jerome Cardan (Gerolamo Cardano), Johannes Stadius and, nearly a century later, Lilly himself.
We also pick up our thread about technology and its effect on astrology, asking how far calculation, software and scientific method can support the work, and where intuition, judgement and interpretation still need to take the lead.
It’s an interesting set of questions, and it leads us to reflect on where astrology has been, where it stands today and where it might be heading in the future.
