Russia-Ukraine War: A Turning Point?

I felt compelled to share this divination publicly because it seemed so ‘radical’, as we say in divination circles…

Last week, I did an I Ching reading post the departure of Boris Johnson from UK political life just to gauge the general zeitgeist and see what might be ahead, especially given Donald Trump‘s impending trial in the US.

I did so a few days before the solstice on 21 June 2023, and got the following Hexagram-changing line combo:

Hexagram 36, changing line 6 which is called ‘Brightness Hiding’.

This hexagram is all about the need to hide your light/conceal your intelligence or protect yourself from the attacks of tyrants and formidable enemies. All of which does sound quite political and fits with the nature and circumstances of the question I was posing when I did my divination.

Now what’s interesting is that I got the very same Hexagram back in Feb 2022, just before the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, when I did an I Ching divination for YouTube.

At that time, however, I got Hexagram 36, changing line 4, which is earlier on in terms of unfolding events or timelines – traditionally the Chinese viewed the path of any change as progressing from the bottom line (line 1) to the top (line 6), so line 4 was just past the half-way point, marking the transition from the private to the public sphere, so to speak…

What’s interesting is that this combination transforms into Hexagram 55, which is strongly associated with the summer solstice and the story of King Wu, which I outline in the video. To get the same hexagram at this juncture in the wheel of the year here in the northern hemisphere, did set my antennae off.

When I read Karcher’s interpretation for line 6, however, I was flabbergasted, especially given recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Read it and judge for yourself:

Top line
A time of brightening, a time of darkening.
The cycle is over. The tyrant falls. The darkening ends and you are free. Life once more comes forth from hardship. Think about this set of events and how it started. There is a lesson to be learned.

All I can say is life is mysterious.

In spite of all the forecasting tools and divination methods we have at our disposal, we still can’t always predict precisely what lies ahead.

Let’s hope this does turn out to be an omen of hope for Ukraine and a sign that there may be an end in sight to this awful war, or, at the very least, a move away from what some have termed the age of impunity.
